Thumb pain / CMC arthritis

ArthroRejuvenation® stem cell procedure

Most effective non surgical treatment

Enhance recovery and outcome of surgical treatment

Dr. Fitzmaurice has developed the ArthroRejuvenation® stem cell procedure to alleviate joint pain and enhance recovery and outcome when surgery is required. This is the most effective treatment for patients with early basal thumb joint (CMC) arthritis. The traditional treatment options for thumb arthritis include brace and non steroidal anti-inflammatory medications. Steroid injections are often given as an initial treatment, however these injections are often just temporary relief and no nothing to help repair the underlying damage and prevent further damage to the cartilage. The ArthroRejuvenation® procedure provides stem cells and healing growth factors to significantly decrease joint pain and to actually heal the damaged tissue, unlike steroid injections which only mask the symptoms and can actually cause further damage to the joint. Steroid injections have been found to decrease the amount of cartilage in the joint when larger dosages and multiple injections are given. Multiple research studies have demonstrated an improvement in joint pain and even increased cartilage when treated with techniques such as the ArthroRejuvenation® procedure.

Non Surgical treatment for thumb arthritis

The ArthroRejuvenation® stem cell procedure has demonstrated the most significant improvement in pain relief, especially when used to treat early arthritis. A fluoroscopic guided injection of stem cells and growth factors are placed into the damaged joint. Patients are instructed to refrain from heavy use of the thumb for 2 weeks then may begin unrestricted activity. Patients have noticed up to 90% relief within weeks and most importantly have often avoided joint surgery procedures. typical research data such as pain scales and function scores improve by up to 160% within 6 weeks. Our data has been presented at international stem cell conferences with patients having had relief for over 2 years. This procedure is the most effective non surgical treatment available for treatment of thumb arthritis.

Benefit of adding the ArthroRejuvenation stem cell to the surgical treatment.

The addition of stem cell to the joint surgery enhances the recovery with less symptoms and greater improvement in function. The QuickDash score on the left is a score involving both symptoms and function. 0 is best and 100 worst.

Enhance the recovery and improve outcome after surgery procedures

The EndoTech® thumb arthritis procedure (Fitzmaurice Hand Institute) is the most effective surgical option for treating thumb arthritis that is persistent despite conservative management. This procedure involves an arthroscopic technique at removing damaged bone and creating a new joint space. The entire procedure takes about 30 minutes under local anesthesia and has the quickest recovery of any of the surgical options. Patients are started on therapy in just 1 week and often require only 6-8 weeks total therapy compared to 4-6 months when the traditional procedure is performed. The ArthroRejuvenation® procedure can also be performed with this surgical option. The stem cells and growth factors are placed into the surgical site after removing the damaged portion of bone. The tissue enhances recovery and actually stimulates growth of cartilage. Patients who also have the stem cell procedure in addition to the minimally invasive surgery have improved pain relief and function.

Arthroscopic provides 30% better improvement in symptoms and function compared to the typical surgery for CMC arthritis.

Arthroscopic with the ArthroRejuvenation® - stem cell procedure provides 78% better improvement in symptoms and function compared to the typical surgical procedure for CMC arthritis.
